The Atlanta Korean Cultural Center (AKCC) was founded in 2002 by HyunSuk Yang with a mission to share her expertise in Korean dance performance and education with the Atlanta community. Since its inception, AKCC has led performances at national, state, and local festivals, celebrating and promoting the richness of Korean culture and traditions.

In 2008, AKCC became a registered non-profit organization, expanding its impact through performing arts and cultural education while fostering meaningful community connections. Over the years, AKCC has also played a foundational role in nurturing new cultural initiatives, including a group originally developed within AKCC that later grew into an independent organization. Located in Gwinnett County—one of the most diverse counties in Georgia—AKCC serves a growing Korean American population, with nearby cities such as Duluth, Suwanee, and Lawrenceville emerging as key cultural and economic hubs.

Despite this growth, access to structured and affordable cultural education and meaningful public engagement opportunities remains limited. AKCC addresses this gap by offering inclusive, community-centered programs that support identity and pride among Korean American youth while promoting cultural understanding and inclusion across the broader community. In doing so, AKCC strengthens social connections, encourages civic engagement, and contributes to the region’s cultural vitality.

애틀랜타 한국문화원(AKCC)는 2002년 양현숙 단장에 의해 설립되었으며, 한국무용 공연과 교육에 대한 전문성을 애틀랜타 지역사회와 나누는 것을 사명으로 시작되었습니다. 설립 이후 AKCC는 전국, 주, 지역 단위의 다양한 축제와 행사에서 공연을 펼치며 한국 문화와 전통의 아름다움을 알리고 있습니다.

2008년에는 비영리단체로 등록되어 공연예술과 문화교육을 통해 영향력을 확장하고, 지역사회 내 의미 있는 연결을 만들어가고 있습니다. 또한 AKCC는 그동안 다양한 문화적 이니셔티브를 육성하는 데 기초적인 역할을 해왔으며, 그중에는 AKCC 내에서 시작되어 이후 독립적인 단체로 성장한 그룹도 포함됩니다. 조지아주에서 가장 다양한 인구 구성을 가진 카운티 중 하나인 귀넷 카운티를 기반으로, AKCC는 둘루스, 스와니, 로렌스빌과 같은 주요 도시를 중심으로 성장하고 있는 한인 커뮤니티를 위해 활동하고 있습니다.

이러한 성장에도 불구하고, 체계적이고 합리적인 비용의 문화교육과 의미 있는 공공 참여 기회는 여전히 부족한 실정입니다. AKCC는 이러한 격차를 해소하기 위해 포용적이고 지역사회 중심의 프로그램을 제공하며, 한인 청소년들의 정체성과 자긍심을 함양하는 동시에 더 넓은 지역사회 내에서 문화적 이해와 포용을 증진하고 있습니다. 이를 통해 AKCC는 사회적 연결을 강화하고, 시민 참여를 장려하며, 지역의 문화적 활력에 기여하고 있습니다.
